Meet the 22-year-old beauty queen who risked everything by daring to tell the truth: that marriage should only be between a man and a woman
Still Standing
by Carrie Prejean
She has been threatened, ridiculed, smeared and vilified in
the liberal media -- but beauty queen Carrie Prejean is still
holding her head high. Now, in Still Standing, Prejean tells her
side of the tumultuous story of how a beauty pageant contestant
became nationally notorious, a villain of the amoral Left, and a
hero of those who have faith in God and sound moral values --
which are more valuable than any earthly crown.
(continued from above)
The moment of truth for beauty queen Carrie Prejean, Miss
California, came during the 2009 Miss USA pageant. One of five
semi-finalists, she was asked this question by one of the
judges, Perez Hilton, a self-styled "gay" celebrity blogger and
professional gadfly: "Vermont recently became the fourth state
to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should
follow suit? Why or why not?" Prejean was being dared -- in
front of the entire world -- to give a candid answer. "I knew,"
she recalled, "if I told the truth, I would lose everything I
was competing for: the crown and everything that went with it. I
also knew, or suspected, that I was the front-runner, and if I
swallowed hard and gave the politically correct answer, I could
be Miss USA."
Prejean swallowed hard and did the right thing, answering:
"I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman."
She explained later: "I knew immediately that I would lose the
competition because of my answer, because I had spoken from my heart, from my beliefs, and for my God. I also spoke for the majority of people of California, but not, I was sure, for the majority of judges on the panel. They as a group represented the values of Hollywood; those aren't my values, and though I didn't want to offend anyone, it was more important to me to be biblically correct than politically correct."
Even though she was not crowned Miss USA, Prejean was soon
subjected to a virulent Leftist campaign of personal
destruction, culminating in her being stripped of her crown and publicly humiliated. An angry detractor vowed that Prejan was "going to die broke, drunk, and lonely. We are going to destroy her. She doesn't know what she is up against." And did their worst. "It's a sad fact of life," says Prejan, "but I knew political correctness was was powerful enough to deny me the opportunity to be Miss USA. As painful as losing is, especially for a competitor like me, I could live with that -- because the crown was not worth winning if it meant compromising my beliefs." What she didn't know was that merely for expressing a point of view identical to that of most California voters, the President of the United States, and most Americans, she would be publicly labeled a bigot, a Nazi and worse.
Carrie Prejean became the victim of a succession of well-planned dirty tricks -- in which, to take just one notorious example, the same people who put her on an airplane to New York would then hold a press conference to bemoan the fact that I was not with them in Los Angeles. Her personal medical information and emails were publicly released without her knowledge or consent. Embarrassing mistakes of her past were aired publicly. She received a televised death threat from a prominent British politician -- and no one she worked with in the Miss California or Miss USA pageants dared to stand up to say a word in her defense. Within weeks, she was fired as Miss California in a manner calculated to maximize her public humiliation.
In Still Standing, she tells her whole story, unblinkingly
laying out all the horrifying facts surrounding her ordeal as
Miss California, and showing the full price that adherents of
traditional morality must pay in America today in order to stand
up for the truth. But throughout her ordeal, Carrie Prejean
proved to be a truly heroic soul: she paid that price, and paid
it without complaint -- and in so doing became an inspiration for
all those who are still standing with her for the truths of God
and man that are being relentlessly assailed every day in our
ongoing culture wars.
Along the way, Carrie Prejean learned something about
America. She learned that there is something broken in our
culture when a majority of Americans are afraid to speak out on
what they really believe about a prominent issue. Prejean's
story, so indelibly told here, demonstrates that there is
something sick about a political correctness smear machine that
can be turned on so instantly and can throw so much hatred at a
young woman who dared to speak her mind.
Carrie Prejean also learned something about herself. The
Leftists who determined to destroy her didn't know who they were
messing with. Her story shows that conservative women,
Christians, and people who believe in traditional values are not
fair game; that they cannot be mocked and pilloried at will.
After telling her remarkable story, Prejean concludes: "All this
stuff, from Las Vegas to the studios of New York -- all this
drama -- is not real to me anymore. What is real is the love of
God and how we express that love when we're tempted,
discouraged, or challenged. Keep your eye on the prize, for the
only crown that truly glitters is the one you get to keep
forever."
Still Standing is Carrie Prejean's ringing testimony to
that great and eternal truth.

Carrie Prejean writes a good book. She reveals what goes on in the beauty pageant industry that people don't realize. Carrie stands for America and defends herself well against slander and lies thrown at her. She is really an admirable and strong woman. I wish her the very best and believe she will accomplish a lot in her lifetime. Hopefully we will see Carrie Prejean speaking out in the future.
Carrie Prejean has nothing to say. She is 22 years old and her main accomplishment seems to have been winning some beauty pageants. Her main desire seems to be segueing her controversial moment on the Miss USA pageant into a glittering on-air career, to judge by how often we see her face. And she can wrap her prejudice any way she wants it, but denying other people their rights can't be justified in this day and age. Do yourself a favor and don't read a book by this vacuous, nasty, self-righteous and smug young woman who clearly has a lot of growing up to do.
I only wish that more people would speak up as Carrie did. She is a roll model for everyone of us. I haven't read her book but I am going to purchase it because she needs all the support that we christians can give her. We need to get back to our christian morals and I am willing to follow her values.
God bless you Carrie
