PROOF: Working motherhood is bad for women, children, and families
7 Myths of Working Mothers
by Suzanne Venker
Demolishing dozens of liberal half-truths, myths, and fabrications, full-time mom Suzanne Venker proves in 7 Myths of Working Mothers: Why Children and (Most) Careers Just Don't Mix that women simply can't be successful in the workplace and at home at the same time. She demonstrates that the only option that doesn't lead to ruined families and destroyed lives is for women to plan their careers around motherhood, rather than planning motherhood around their careers.
(continued from above)
Venker fearlessly tackles the issues of working motherhood that have caused the most contention: family economics, the notion of "quality time," women's guilt and stress, gender equality, and daycare. Drawing on extensive research and her own experience as a mother and teacher, she explodes myth after myth about working mothers, including:
- "I'm a better mom for working"
- "My children just love day care!"
- "I could balance work and family if I had more support"
- "Men can have it all. Why shouldn't we?"
As she takes on these myths, Venker builds an unassailable case for the link between the problems of today's children and the absence of mothers from the home. "If motherhood were viewed as the full-time job it is," says Venker, "it would not be considered something we could do on the side, and women would be less inclined to try to balance career and motherhood, only to discover, many stress-filled years later, that it cannot be done."
Glamour magazine was so frightened by this book that a recent issue told readers: "Don't believe 7 Myths of Working Mothers"! Why? They know that Venker's case cannot be refuted. As such, this book is not only a bold call to working women to shift their priorities from the feverish pursuit of professional success to the most satisfying one of all: the nurturing of children -- it's also a potent weapon in the first line of defense of the family, today everywhere under attack.
A few highlights of Suzanne Venker's powerful pro-family case:
- The rationalizations working mothers use to justify their being away from their children: why they're without substance
- Why working mothers simply cannot expect to get the same results in childrearing as full-time mothers
- How having mothers who work interferes with children's sleeping habits, and could irreparably damage their health
- The childhood obesity epidemic: a direct consequence of working motherhood
- Working mothers: subtle ways they show that they feel guilty about working, and know they should be at home
- How working motherhood interferes with older children's natural need for consistency
- The day care myth: why no child is really better off being away from his mother for extended periods each weekday -- and why Americans have so readily believed otherwise despite overwhelming evidence
- Why even the most experienced and beloved nanny is no substitute for a mother -- and could actually damage the relationship between mother and child
- How the idea that men and women are essentially the same has led to today's high divorce rate
- Why it is false that babies need day care in order to be intellectually stimulated
- How working moms can get over the common idea that disciplining their children is a bad thing -- and why responsible discipline is an essential part of showing kids genuine love
- Why women, not men, should stay home and raise children -- and why this division of labor has nothing to do with the liberal myth of deeply ingrained societal discrimination
- Two virtues that have almost vanished from today's society, but that are essential for the health of every marriage and family
- How the relaxation of evenings and weekends has fallen prey to the necessities of working women
- Heroic profiles of highly accomplished women who have courageously given up their careers for their families, despite enormous societal pressure
- How children change marriages forever -- and, contrary to the prevailing myth, for the better
- Practical steps families can take in order to allow mom to stay home and make it work financially
- How America's leaders, both conservative and liberal, are failing in their obligation to warn parents of the detriments of day care
"Ms. Venker's contribution to humanity, to families, to marriages, to women is huge. In a way, it is sad that she's got to argue points to prove what ought to be a 'given.' On the other hand her arguments are beautifully crafted, and right on target for today's anti-childrearing atmosphere." -- Dr. Laura Schlessinger

Is this woman insane, or just pure evil? Nice "research" you cretin!
Why are we living in a liberal world view? Did you know the original "feminists" of pre-WWII were also communists who wanted to have government funded daycare for all mothers so they could work like men do.
When you tell it like it is, the guilty world hates the message and the messenger. We must tell the truth and let the wicked people call us unjust names, if they choose. They are the real losers.
This book should be mandatory reading for all families. Pre World War II Germany was big on daycare. In fact Hitlers regime promoted working mothers and daycare. How else do you brain wash a society into ruthlessly murdering 6 million men, women and innocent children? Wake up people! The battle for you childrens minds, hearts and souls begins the minute your children are born. Daycare is the place your children give up hope and become jaded. They are then latter able to be completely controlled by every authority out there except the parents.
