The corrupt bargain the Democratic Party doesn't want you to know about
"Simply put, the leftist labor unions have the Democrats in their pockets. And we're all paying the price."

Betrayal

by Linda Chavez

While it has been said that unions are an adjunct of the Democratic Party, it's now more accurate to say that the Democratic Party is a wholly owned subsidiary of Big Labor. So writes Linda Chavez, President George W. Bush's original choice for Secretary of Labor, and one of the foremost authorities on America's labor unions. In Betrayal, Chavez and fellow union expert Daniel Gray expose how union bosses funnel as much as $800 billion into Democratic coffers every year, in return for which they get to wield extraordinary political power at all levels of government -- federal, state, and local. As a result, write Chavez and Gray, "Big Labor has corrupted not only the electoral process but also our system of governing."

Chavez and Gray not only name names -- fingering the politicians who have sold out to Big Labor -- they also show exactly how we arrived at this unholy alliance between unions and the Democrats. Finally, they reveal the devastating real-world consequences for all Americans. A few of the startling revelations you'll find in Betrayal:

  • The inside story of how unions hide millions in contributions to the Democrats -- by paying for mailings, advertising, get-out-the-vote drives, phone banks, campaign operatives, and more (Chavez saw all this firsthand as a union official)

  • How Bill Clinton gave the unions formal veto power over party strategy and policy -- and in return, Big Labor almost single-handedly engineered Clinton's reelection

  • How Clinton also made sure his biggest union backers -- including mobbed-up unions -- got a big chunk of federal grants

  • How unions flout the law by failing to report any of their political spending to the IRS

  • Big Labor's all-out efforts in the 2004 election. How just one local union has launched a $35 million campaign to unseat President Bush

  • Why the unions have adopted an extreme-left agenda in recent years -- pouring billions into such "causes" as forcing the Boy Scouts to admit homosexuals and atheists, promoting abortion, opposing welfare reform, and supporting "gay marriage"

  • How John Kerry has backpedaled from his free-trade position to appeal to the fiercely anti-trade labor unions in 2004

  • How Kerry, who campaigns against "special interests," created a special tax-exempt committee that collected more than $470,000 in soft money from unions and other sources

  • How Big Labor harms the American economy, driving up taxes and prices and forcing companies out of business with their onerous union work rules and wage and benefit demands

  • No Union Boss Left Behind: How the powerful teachers' unions block much-needed educational reform but siphon billions of dollars into their failing educational system each year

  • The government report that uncovered the Democrats' sellout to Big Labor -- and how the unions and Democrats sued to keep it from going public

  • How Hillary Clinton flip-flopped on key issues to appease her union backers -- and has cozied up to a labor boss closely connected to organized crime

  • How labor officials use union members' hard-earned money to fund lavish lifestyles -- and how their Democratic supporters let them get away with it

  • How the labor unions bring in $17 billion in annual revenue -- all of it all tax-free, and all from dues money that workers are forced to pay as a condition of their employment

  • How public-employee unions extort concessions from the government and put Americans at risk by refusing to provide vital services like policing and firefighting

  • How Americans now live under a system of legal apartheid -- one set of rules for labor bosses, another for the rest of us

  • How the labor movement, whose most powerful official is a self-proclaimed Socialist, has abandoned workers to pursue a radical political agenda

  • How union members must pay exorbitant dues -- averaging more than $600 a year -- but labor bosses spend as little as 10 percent of that on their supposed purpose, representing workers

  • Why the American labor movement has shifted its emphasis from workers to politics

  • Why union workers have virtually no recourse if they object to how their dues are being spent

  • How mobsters have taken control of many unions

  • Teddy Kennedy: How just two days after 9/11, he tried to sneak through a bill that would have forced firefighters, police officers, and emergency workers to be unionized

  • How Sen. Charles Schumer of New York used a congressional hearing to airily dismiss reams of evidence of mob influence in the unions -- and was rewarded with huge campaign contributions

  • How the unions nearly stole the 2004 election for Al Gore

"Union leaders do not want you to read this book"

"With her usual straightforward insight Linda unearths the unholy alliance between Big Labor and Democratic Party leaders. Betrayal exposes how Democratic politicians have sold out to Big Labor with devastating consequences for all Americans. This is a must-read for anyone concerned about higher taxes, bigger government, and a far-left social agenda." -- SEAN HANNITY

"The leaders of organized labor did not want Linda Chavez to become Secretary of Labor, and for good reason. In Betrayal, Chavez makes the case that union leaders misrepresent their members, devote excessive amounts of dues money to the Democratic Party, and engage in corrupt practices. Union leaders do not want you to read this book." -- MICHAEL BARONE, U.S. News and World Report

Ms. Chavez states, "union bosses funnel as much as $800 billion into Democratic coffers every year." Per the U.S. Dept of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics there were 15.8 million union workers in the U.S. in 2003. That equates to over $50K per union worker per year. That's more than most make, period! Chavez declares all union's total annual revenue to be $17 Billion, which is a reasonably accurate rate of $1,076 per member per year. At that rate, Unions would have taken 47 years to amass $800 billion, with all of it donated to political causes in just one year. It is obvious this-one time disgruntled Democrat is out to make a buck at the expense of naive American whom read the cover and don't expore or research the contents. Remember, even the numbers don't match up. Fire Fighters and Police would never delay or jeopardize a response because of a political game. (some info from D. Arends, thanks)

I found Linda Chavez's book to be very informative and enlightening. No other writer has exposed the reality of the American Labor Movement. This is a book that every worker in USA should read.

This book is great, I'm given it to my children so they could understand what I have been saying all these years.
